In 1989, Richard was accepted as a Craft Member in the Society of Heraldic Arts. Later, he went on to become a Fellow of the American Collage of Heraldry in 1994. Presently Richard serves on its Advisory Board.

Majored in Art at the University of Arkansas with post Graduate work at the Art Centre School in Los Angeles.

Since 1987, Richard has devoted a major portion of his time to heraldic art after earlier work as a studio artist and advertising agency Art Director.
